i’m so glad leona lewis is here to fill the gap of young sweet mariah who i was so in love with when i was in pri sch - not the mariah now who sells albums based on her tits. her voice is just so damn f-ing amazing, she manages to hit every top note with such crystal clarity. hot bod with equiline-ish face but she’s still gorgeous. plus she’s just really sweet and humble, and the sexy brit accent…*drools*. so totally perfect!! how can anyone not like her?? i’m gonna replay her album like crazy, and i’ve watched almost every leona vid on youtube tonight…yes i know so fangirl. but seriously before her i didn’t bother with any other artiste.

i’ve been eating too much the past few days. today i ate dinner at home before going out for fish head curry dinner with the lamers, and i even had the audacity to eat michelle’s rice after mine!! *guilty look* like zomg why can’t i be a skinnybitch who just pokes at her food?? plus i ate lunch and my first dinner were only 2 hours apart. and after my second dinner i still ate gelato!! *faints* this has better be a bout of PMS induced gluttony. i really really need to start exercising soon!

anyway meetups the past few days have been really good. i <3 my friends many many! caught up with dora over alot of food+coffee. then i joined and her scgs friends for dinner and then we played taboo (the sg version) which was super hilarious!! even gg out with my mum aunt and cousin was fun, we haven’t done that since i was in secondary school cuz i was so busy in JC/living in hall! visited the comic and toy fair at suntec and brought mat to clarke quay and we had japanese mania at liang court. today was dinner in our ‘hood with the east coast brigade, i can’t believe we’ve known each other for almost 8 years! and i found out today i actually know wy’s home phone by heart…why!?!? :P hoping to meet up with the jc clique soon!

btw i also cut my hair and did my brows, i feel so groomed!! haha. ok i really need to get back to those damn apps :P

hmm i’ve been to quite a few food places since i last blogged! so much for my diet la…cb.

-monster mash @ holland v (hard to find cuz we were blur, quite ex aka almost uk prices, mash was dry but sausages good, friendly boss)

-frolick @ holland v (eew. this was bad. yoguru was much much smoother and it’s basically all hype!)

-french stall @ sturdee road (damn hot, slow service, only had snacks though and the souffle was outstanding!)

-cafe domus @ owen road (ok not really a food place, but a chill out place in a rather shady location lol. ask me for juicy details!)

-soup kitchen @ TM (the set lunch was super heavy i almost puked, steamed mince meat with kiam her was too salty)

-tampopo (new) @ liang court (reduced portion, long queue, but trademark black pig shabu shabu ramen, saba shio and dessert were all really good!)

- haato (new) @ liang court (the slowest ice cream boy in the world, jacked up prices, less watery texture?)

alot of backlog :(( i really wanna start a full fledged food blog!! and blog abt the eggciting nosh from TO/nyc/europe!!

on another note, the weather is become unbearably hot :(( my make up keeps melting and it’s gone by half the day, and i bake in my own sweat whenever i’m not in an aircon room. argh. super duper gross!!

edited: i’ve finally started another whole blog for all my food entries. so wait for it! will unleash it only when i’ve gotten quite a fair bit done :) i love the name!!

pasta de waruku June 26, 2008

Filed under: jobhunt, nosh — baozie @ 8:24 pm

it seems like i just lost a clique of friends…oh well.

i just sent 9 apps since i got back! at least i can go out and play a lil tmr :) if i don’t get any calls, so be it. i’m trying my best! and i bought a new suit today which looks pretty good! must be prepared :)

today i had dinner with ryl the sweetie, at pasta de waruku marina sq! i’ve never eaten there before. hmm my squid, mentaiko and egg pasta was not too bad but the portion was so small! and it wasn’t just cuz i was hungry. i liked poking the egg yolk and mixing it in with the mentaiko and ‘carbornara’ pasta sauce. but i was left a little confused at their products offerings. too wide and what on earth is ‘wafu’ sauce? it has no taste! haha. oh the service was excellent though. they even served us drinks when we were in the queue!

i better get up tmr to meet eudora at holland v for lunch! and fish head curry with east coast brigade on sunday! :))

i am a lousy pok June 26, 2008

last night i lay in bed replaying the horrible phone interview scene repeatedly in my head for at least 1 hour? *refer to title* i couldn’t stop cringing and thinking to myself how i just f-ed up one awesome awesome chance. and it’s not just an internship, it’s a frickin job. and they didn’t call today, which is as good as gone la. when i heard of my friend who got a job there i was like all WOW and yesterday i actually got a call from them which i promptly screwed up. go me, really. supposed to stop moping around by today and start the next round of job apps but i have so much ennui in me. and because i couldn’t sleep when my parents pulled me out of bed early i was really grumpy and pissed off (i’m sure they were too), and got damn agitated at my dad when he told me my neighbour got through the SIA girl interview (which i didn’t go doh but they wanted me to). eeyer i don’t like this. this is a very gross period. kids who are still in school (and don’t have jobs waiting for you when you grad), please cherish your time in lala-land. gonna meet ryl in a bit, i guess that will cheer me up though. and i’ll have to buy a skirt for interviews cuz nbs says so…with hope that i get more calls that is. le sigh.

got my first call today regarding my job search. did a phone interview with *** and i didn’t fare too well =( was all over the place and i got super nervous. kinda sucks tt i got such a good company for my first interview attempt, so i couldn’t really use it to gain “experience”. i know there’s no point moping about it and i should just use it as a good lesson, but it’s such a painful one cuz i don’t think the other companies are gonna call me - this was the most recent app i sent out. so i really hope they’ll call me back :/ i honestly wouldn’t mind working there!! now back to doing more apps…damn sianzzz/draining. gotta psyche myself that it’s still okay to be jobless now…just as long as i’m not jobless in december or something. lol.

on a lighter note, we celebrated our monthniversary today! had a fun day out :) lunch at au petite salut was awesome!! i highly recommend the set lunch and the ambience/service was just perfect. anyone else wanna go, jio me! i wanna try the other stuff. took a nice leisurely stroll in the botanic gardens, photowhored and got bitten by 24598 mozzies. me thinks that the BG is a very underrated attraction!! then we ended up at the singapore flyer. had seafood dinner at the seafood restaurant there - can’t rmbr the name, but it was packed on a weekday night. too much good food in one day!! :D anyway it was quite expensive but the service was damn good. they must have changed mat’s hand wash bowl at least 5 times!? is the service standard in sg improving or what? well i’m definitely not complaining haha. anyway i’m really proud of the present i made for him, my first handmade pseudo-handicraft present ever. am pleased with the results :)

just got off the phone with eudora…finally gonna meet her on fri! and she got this totally kickass internship, happy for her! :) so exciting!

art + my parents = disaster

art + me + my parents = ultimate disaster

art + me + kiasu aunties + screaming babies = armageddon and me in a @#%&^# mood

and now to break down these complex equations for you:

the closing ceremony of the annual singapore arts festival was held in my neighbourhood this year! HELL YEAH HANDS UP HOW MANY OF U WHO CAN PROUDLY SAY THAT…LOL. what a better way to close it with a free show in the heartlands, to show that art is not just an esoteric thing of the elite right? so i thought it was a cute idea to have a show about water staged at bedok reservoir, where new water is proudly produced, and juxtaposed against the backdrop of sheng siong and an average singaporean neighbourhood. very cool. just like how i’ve always loved the idea of mixing haute couture and street fashion in an outfit.

however, within 10 mins of the show…2 aunties standing near me got into a heated argument in hokkien cuz 1 accused the other of blocking her view though she came later, this family tried to squeeze onto this little patch of grass so they could sit and one of the aunties lost her balance and toppled on top of this angmoh lady which caused a slight kerfuffle, babies everywhere were crying and screaming cuz it was near pitch blackness, people everywhere just couldn’t stop talking, my mum complained of stuffiness/giddiness and decided to take off to seek refuge on a nearby bench, and my dad was getting grumpy cuz he didn’t understand what was going on.

well neither did i really. and when i came back and read the sypnosis online, i’m still not convinced that it’s about this

“In a floating factory a group of dedicated men brew an elixir made of fruits from the water. The arrival of two women is a festive event, until jealousy and the need to take control
arise. Greed wakes up an underworld of mystical powers that turn things upside down. Can water burn and fire extinguish? Hydro Sapiens is a musical water spectacle in which bodies overflow and drowned persons will rise again…”

i did think it was about global warming (especially that freaky robot thingy), GM food and plants, how water is a source of life and renewal, a source of evil, a backdrop for romance, juxtaposed against fire - something like good vs evil…just some random incoherent thoughts that popped up during the performance. and apparently alot of their props were made out of recycled materials, which serves to reinforce their message of caring for the environment. well there’s no definite answer to a work of art anyway right? so that’s just my own interpretation :)

anyway, the crowd really cheesed me off :( i don’t really think the idea of arts in the heartlands can work. it’s such a joke since the bulk of the audience are just going there cuz it’s free, especially since transport was even provided from bedok mrt. charge 5$ and i don’t think it will be 1/3 as full. to put it in a totally un-pc way and generalise abit, i do think that sg is a country with 3rd world mentality and 1st world amenities. not that we can really blame anyone though, since we industralised quickly and that’s a good thing.

immediately after the show ended, there was a mad rush to sheng siong and i overheard this conversation on my way home, “eh just now the show hor…the name is called what ah? hydro-how to pronounce wan?”

yoguru June 21, 2008

Filed under: nosh — baozie @ 8:51 pm

after a traumatic but fun bowling session (my score was like 1/3 of the winner’s), i bought fro-yo willingly from yoguru for the first time in my life. i’m not a fan of yoghurt because i tend to associate it with the smell of bad BO, especially those plain and sourish ones but i’m glad yoguru’s bliss flavour which had pomegranate and dragonfruit innit had none of that, so it was actually very bearable to eat. it came in a pretty baby pink shade which pretty much overpowered my yoghurt-phobia (see below) and the flavour was very slight which was good in a way that you could tell it was still yoghurt.

fro-yo now is getting cool in singapore a la pinkberry in US, and even iberry in thailand so i’m just hopping onto the bandwagon. about time that the fad started anyway. but of course it’s touted to have many nutritious benefits, especially calcium which i muchly need :) however i did find that 1.20$ per topping was too expensive, and i actually prefer the toppings mashed up and blended within the yoghurt like yami yoghurt or yogen fruz in canada…yogen fruz was good! the little bit that i tried of it anyway. and i know a lot of friends who dig yami yoghurt, or if we’re talking ice cream, coldstone creamery. mere topppings are not half as fun! it feels too peripheral.

can’t wait to check out frolick next, it sounds like a good place to people watch.

i want to eat this! elijah said it was really good and it seems absolutely value for money, considering it’s at a fine dining restaurant. better try before they raise the price again!
